Rufus – CASA Child’s Stuffed Animal

My name is Rufus and I have an owner that I love very much. Benjamin is more than just my owner, he is my best friend. Benjamin’s parents fought a lot. Even if we couldn’t always see it, we could always hear it. My boy and I had to move a lot. We lived in a lot of different places with lots of different people, but we were always together. One day my boy came home in a hurry and quickly left. Out the door he went and I thought he would eventually be back for me. Every day I waited.

Just when I thought I had lost my boy forever, a woman came asking for me. She picked me up and took me in her car. We drove and drove and drove. A hundred and twenty miles we drove. I had no idea where I was going and I was very scared, but the woman I was with was very nice and handled me with care. We eventually get out of the car and walk into a place I had never seen before. All of the sudden I hear the women say “Look who I found.” I turn to see who the woman was talking to and it was none other than my boy! My boy runs up to me and gives me the biggest hug ever! My boy turns to the woman and says “I knew you would find him, I knew you would never give up.”

I later found out the woman who came and got me was my boy’s CASA volunteer from A Kid’s Place. This CASA volunteer became a big part of my boy’s life. She became the first grown-up that he knew he could count on.

This is a true story of a CASA volunteer, a child and his favorite stuffed animal
