MEET OUR CASAS : Eric Elder

Eric discusses below reasons for becoming a CASA Volunteer, and what motivates him as a CASA Volunteer.

1) Why did you decide to become a CASA?

As a first responder I was exposed to how difficult hard times can be on children. I recognized that these children are willing and even eager in most cases for a stable, honest, and trusting adult in their lives (even if its difficult for them to express). I also grew up with temporary foster siblings and realized as an adult the positive impact they had on me. It just made sense for me to become a CASA.

2) What do you like best about being a CASA?

The best part about being a CASA is being able to genuinely help kids who need it, and to give them a voice.

3) How many CASA cases have you had?

I have had 1 CASA case.

4) Tell us one of your most meaningful experiences as a CASA?

Even with my limited experience as a CASA, It is very clear to see how much a Judge can reflect on a CASA input and objective views of what is best for a child. This was brought to my attention as an absent party entered the picture at the eleventh hour in court. The Judge was fair, read over reports- and made in my opinion what was best for the child.

5) What has being a CASA taught you?

Keeping a cool head and open heart is what a CASA child sees. My attitude is ALWAYS being watched by my CASA child.

6) What keeps you motivated as a CASA?

I’ve been blessed with mentors throughout my life, I feel that this is a small way for me to honor those mentors and give my time.
