More Than A Race: The Power of Community at the Superhero Run

On Saturday, September 20th, the Greeley Family FunPlex will once again be filled with energy, joy, and a sea of capes as our community gathers for the 13th Annual Superhero Run. While the event is a fun and festive way to spend a fall morning, its impact is far greater. Each step taken that day directly supports children in Weld County who have experienced abuse and neglect.

Last year marked my very first experience with the Superhero Run—and, plot-twist…I was also the one in charge of it (talk about a crash course!). It was both a challenge and a privilege to step into that role, and I was immediately reminded of the incredible spirit of this community. It became instantly clear to me that the Superhero Run is far more than a race; it is a celebration of how Greeley and Weld County come together to protect and uplift our children.

In my short year and a half at Life Stories Child & Family Advocacy, I have continually witnessed the remarkable ways in which our community unites for children and families. The Superhero Run exemplifies that spirit, bringing together every corner of our community:

    • Sponsors and business leaders who invest in the event and make the work possible
    • Teachers and school teams who inspire students to lead with kindness and service
    • Community members who show up in large numbers to run, walk, and volunteer
    • Nonprofit partners who stand alongside us in a shared mission of supporting children
    • Law enforcement agencies who not only work to keep children safe but serve as positive role models on race day

For me personally, this event represents the very best of Greeley.
I am deeply proud to live and work in a place where collaboration and compassion are more than just values—they are actions lived out every single day.

On September 20th, when families, students, business leaders, first responders, and neighbors gather at the FunPlex, they will be sending a powerful message to children across Weld County: you are not alone, you are valued, and your community is here for you.

I look forward to witnessing once again the strength of my community in action. Together, we can ensure that every child has the chance to feel safe, supported, and seen.
