From Safe Spaces to Strong Voices: The Evolution of Life Stories

Nonprofits in Greeley

Our Story

Initially, A Kid’s Place was one of many programs served by the United Way of Weld County. The program, located on the mezzanine level in the United Way building in Downtown Greeley, was a place where children and non-offending family members were provided with a safe environment to tell their stories and to have their stories heard. The program quickly outgrew its space and the resources that United Way was able to provide at that time. As a result, on July 14,1998, a new agency, A Kid’s Place, was organized and registered with the State of Colorado for the purpose of reducing trauma to victims of child abuse and their families by providing a multi-disciplinary response in a neutral, child-friendly, environment.

After obtaining their nonprofit status, A Kid’s Place moved out of the United Way building to another facility. Since then, the agency has moved to various locations to accommodate its expanding services. Currently, the primary office is at 1640 25th Avenue in Greeley with a satellite office in Fort Lupton. In 2017, A Kid’s Place rebranded as Life Stories Child & Family Advocacy. The new name reflects the agency’s commitment to serving children and youth and being an advocate for the non-offending family members.

Our Programs

Today, Life Stories serves as the umbrella agency for three key programs:

·                     CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates): Volunteers who advocate for the best interests of children in the court system.

·                     CAC (Child Advocacy Center): A safe, supportive space where children can share their experiences with trained professionals in a coordinated, trauma-informed setting.

·                     Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children®: A prevention-focused training program that teaches adults how to recognize, prevent, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.

You Can Make a Difference

At Life Stories, we give voice to children living in fear, pain, and silence. We create safe environments where they can speak freely, be heard, and begin to heal. Every child’s story matters—and so does your support.

You make it possible for us to empower children, support families, and provide education that prevents abuse before it happens. Whether through donations, advocacy, or volunteering, YOU help turn the page toward healing and hope for Weld County’s children and families.
