Be the Voice: Why CASA Volunteers Matter More Than Ever

CASA Volunteers

Every child deserves a safe, stable, and loving home. But for children who have experienced abuse or neglect, that path can be uncertain. That’s where CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) volunteers come in—ordinary people doing extraordinary work to ensure every child’s voice is heard in the courtroom and beyond.

At Life Stories Child & Family Advocacy, we believe that one consistent, caring adult can make all the difference. CASA volunteers are that difference.

What Is a CASA Volunteer?

A CASA volunteer is a trained community member appointed by a judge to advocate for a child in the child welfare system. They get to know the child, gather information from adults in the child’s life, and make recommendations to the court about what’s in the child’s best interest.

Unlike caseworkers or attorneys, CASA volunteers typically stay with a child throughout the entire case—providing stability, consistency, and a trusted relationship during a difficult time.

Why CASA Volunteers Are Needed Now

The need for CASA volunteers is greater than ever. With rising numbers of children entering the child welfare system, there simply aren’t enough advocates to go around. Many children go through the system without a consistent adult focused solely on their well-being.

Volunteering as a CASA is a powerful way to stand up for a child who needs someone in their corner. It’s not always easy—but it’s always worth it.

Who Can Be a CASA?

You don’t need a legal background or special qualifications—just a heart for children and a willingness to learn. CASA volunteers come from all walks of life: teachers, retirees, students, business professionals, and stay-at-home parents.

We provide all the training you need, and you’ll be supported every step of the way by our dedicated staff.

What CASA Volunteers Do:

  • Visit with their assigned child regularly
  • Communicate with caregivers, teachers, caseworkers, and others
  • Attend court hearings and write reports for the judge
  • Advocate for the child’s needs in school, health care, and placement
  • Be a consistent, caring presence in the child’s life

The Impact of One

One CASA volunteer can change the trajectory of a child’s life. Children with a CASA are more likely to find a safe, permanent home, do better in school, and have fewer placements in foster care.

But beyond the statistics, it’s about connection. It’s about showing up. It’s about being the one person who says, “I see you. I hear you. I’m here for you.”

How to Get Involved

If you’ve ever wondered how you can make a real difference in your community, this is it. Becoming a CASA volunteer means stepping into a child’s story and helping them write a better one.
